Assign drivers to delivery routes

Proper driver assignment ensures routes are executed efficiently and drivers are utilized effectively. This guide covers how to assign, reassign, and manage driver-route relationships.

Assignment Methods

Manual Assignment

  1. Open the route in Route Builder
  2. Click Assign Driver
  3. Select from available drivers
  4. Choose a vehicle (if not already set)
  5. Confirm

Bulk Assignment

  1. Select multiple routes
  2. Click Assign Drivers
  3. EvoDax suggests assignments based on:
    • Driver availability
    • Driver location/home base
    • Vehicle assignments
    • Route capacity

Auto-Assignment

When using auto-route generation:

  1. Enable "Auto-Assign Drivers"
  2. Drivers are matched to routes automatically
  3. Review and adjust as needed

Driver Availability

Before assigning, check availability:

Vehicle Pairing

When assigning a driver, also assign a vehicle:

Driver's Default Vehicle

If driver has a regular vehicle:

  • Auto-selected when assigning driver
  • Can override if needed

Select Different Vehicle

  1. In assignment panel, click Change Vehicle
  2. Select from available vehicles
  3. Consider capacity requirements

Vehicle Capacity Check

System warns if:

  • Route weight exceeds vehicle capacity
  • Route volume exceeds space
  • Too many stops for vehicle type

Reassigning Drivers

If you need to change a driver:

  1. Open the route
  2. Click Reassign Driver
  3. Select new driver
  4. Confirm the change

The original driver is notified and route is removed from their app.

Reasons to Reassign

  • Driver calls in sick
  • Vehicle breakdown
  • Route rebalancing
  • Customer request

Driver App Integration

Once assigned:

  1. Driver sees route in their app
  2. Can review stops and addresses
  3. Gets navigation assistance
  4. Updates status as they go

Ensure drivers have the app installed and logged in.

Notifications

Configure assignment notifications:

  • Push notification to driver app
  • Email summary of route
  • SMS alert for urgent routes

Set in Settings > Notifications.

Scheduling Future Routes

Assign drivers in advance:

  1. Create routes for future dates
  2. Assign drivers now
  3. They'll see routes on the day
  4. Adjust if availability changes

Team Capacity Planning

Use the Schedule View to see:

  • Driver availability by day
  • Routes assigned to each driver
  • Gaps in coverage
  • Overtime risks

Best Practices

  1. Assign early - Give drivers time to prepare
  2. Consider geography - Match drivers to familiar areas
  3. Balance workload - Don't overload one driver
  4. Plan backup - Know who can cover if needed
  5. Communicate changes - Drivers need to know updates

Troubleshooting

Driver not available?

  • Check their status in system
  • Verify they're not already assigned
  • Confirm working hours

Can't assign vehicle?

  • Vehicle may be assigned elsewhere
  • Check maintenance status
  • Verify capacity requirements

Driver didn't get route?

  • Check app notifications
  • Verify driver is logged in
  • Resend route from system
