Using Route Builder

Build and manage delivery routes

The Route Builder is where you plan and organize deliveries into efficient routes. This guide covers how to create routes, add orders, and prepare for dispatch.

Accessing Route Builder

Go to Route Builder in the sidebar. You'll see:

  • Available Orders panel (left) - Orders ready for routing
  • Route List panel (right) - Your routes

Creating a New Route

  1. Click Create Route button
  2. Enter route details:
    • Name - e.g., "North Dublin AM Route"
    • Planned Date - Delivery date
    • Warehouse - Starting location
    • Vehicle (optional) - Assign now or later
    • Driver (optional) - Assign now or later
  3. Click Create

Adding Orders to Routes

Drag and Drop

  1. Find orders in the Available Orders panel
  2. Drag an order to a route
  3. Drop it in the route panel

Multi-Select

  1. Check boxes next to multiple orders
  2. Click Add to Route
  3. Select the target route

Quick Add

  1. Open an order
  2. Click Add to Route
  3. Select or create a route

Filtering Available Orders

Use filters to find orders:

  • Date - Scheduled delivery date
  • Customer - Specific customer
  • Priority - Urgent orders first
  • Status - Usually CONFIRMED orders

Search by order number or customer name.

Route Order Optimization

Arrange stops in the best sequence:

Manual Reordering

  • Drag stops up/down in the route
  • First stop = first delivery after warehouse

Auto-Optimize (Professional+ plan)

  1. Click Optimize Route
  2. Review suggested order
  3. Accept or adjust

Route Details Panel

Click a route to see:

  • Summary - Stop count, estimated time, distance
  • Stops - Ordered list of deliveries
  • Map - Visual route preview
  • Capacity - Weight/volume usage

Route Actions

Assign Driver

  1. Open route details
  2. Click Assign Driver
  3. Select available driver
  4. Confirm assignment

Assign Vehicle

  1. Open route details
  2. Click Assign Vehicle
  3. Select from fleet
  4. Confirm

Update Status

Move route through stages:

  • PLANNING - Still building
  • READY - Complete and assigned
  • IN_PROGRESS - Driver has started
  • COMPLETED - All deliveries done

Tips for Effective Routing

  1. Group by area - Keep nearby deliveries together
  2. Consider time windows - Route urgent deliveries early
  3. Check capacity - Don't overload vehicles
  4. Review before dispatch - Verify driver assignments
  5. Use the map view - Visualize the route path

Troubleshooting

Order not appearing?

  • Check order status (must be CONFIRMED)
  • Verify scheduled date matches filter
  • Ensure warehouse matches

Can't add to route?

  • Route may be full (capacity)
  • Order may already be assigned
  • Dates might not match

Route seems inefficient?

  • Use auto-optimize feature
  • Consider time windows
  • Check for outlier addresses
